The Deep by Alma Katsu
Someone, or something, is haunting the ship. Between mysterious disappearances and sudden deaths, the guests of the Titanic have found themselves suspended in an eerie, unsettling twilight zone from the moment they set sail. Several of them, including maid Annie Hebley, guest Mark Fletcher, and millionaires Madeleine Astor and Benjamin Guggenheim, are convinced there's something sinister--almost otherwordly--afoot.
We recommend this book because, not only is it a haunting ghost story, it is also a historical romantic one. If you love historical fiction that captures you and keeps you turning pages, this book is perfect for you.
Devolution by Max Brooks
As the ash and chaos from Mount Rainier's eruption swirled and finally settled, the story of the Greenloop massacre has passed unnoticed, unexamined . . . until now. The journals of resident Kate Holland, recovered from the town's bloody wreckage, capture a tale too harrowing--and too earth-shattering in its implications--to be forgotten.
Anyone who loved World War Z will enjoy this book. This book is described as "the Bigfoot thriller you didn't know you needed in your life." If that doesn't convince you to read this book, I don't know what will.
The Haunting of Ashburn House by Darcy Coates
Everyone knows about Ashburn House. They whisper its old owner went mad, and restless ghosts still walk the halls. They say it's the dwelling place of something cruel and sinister. But when Adrienne--desperate and in need of a place to stay--inherits the crumbling old mansion, she only sees it as a lifeline... until darkness falls.
If you've watched The haunting of hill house or the haunting of bly manor on Netflix, you will absolutely love this book.
The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher
Kara finds the words in the mysterious bunker that she's discovered behind a hole in the wall of her uncle's house. Freshly divorced and living back at home, Kara now becomes obsessed with these cryptic words and starts exploring this peculiar area--only to discover that it holds portals to countless alternate realities. But these places are haunted by creatures that seem to hear thoughts...and the more one fears them, the stronger they become.
This novel is very innovative and has a lot of unexpected turns. If you're a fan of movies like Pan's Labyrinth and The Babadook, this book is perfect for you.
If It Bleeds by Stephen King
This is a collection of four novellas — "Mr. Harrigan's Phone," "The Life of Chuck," "Rat," and the titular "If It Bleeds". They're all by turns frightening, wry, and full of shocking twists.
Of course we had to include something from the legendary storyteller Stephen King. He's the best at writing thrillers and horror fiction.
