Books to read if you love mythology

More and more books are being published with mythological themes, and we’re loving all of them. They bring something new and exciting to the Fantasy genre and at The Bookery we had to make a list of our favorite titles for you to read!

1. Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

This book is based on Mayan mythology and it is whimsical and exciting as all of the Mayan myths. This book is set in Mexico in the 1920s and it follows the story of a girl, Cassiopeia, who works as the family maid. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she finds a locked chest in her grandfather’s room and sets free the Mayan god of death, Hun-Kame. Hun-Kame was imprisoned by his own brother and he sets out to reclaim his throne. Enlisting Cassiopeia to help him, the two of them set out on a quest. There’s love, there’s revenge and everything you could wish for in a book. Definitely a must-read.

2. Circe by Madeline Miller

When looking for books about mythology, Circe always comes up. It may seem overrated, but the truth is that this book is a masterpiece. Madeline Miller is a rockstar when writing about greek myths. This novel is about the mythological character of Circe, who is the daughter of the Titan and god of the sun, Helios. The complexity of Circe’s character is what makes this book such a standout. She’s a very powerful witch that has done terrible things, yet she’s so heart-achingly human. She’s lonely, she longs to be accepted and loved. It is a beautiful book and we recommend it wholeheartly.
